Lily Gould is an illustrator and comic artist currently based in Cornwall. Her work is concerned with the intersection of the subjects of girlhood, dreaming and patriarchal, corporate consumer cultures. Within her narratives, she represents the tensions and dualisms within the subconscious dreamworlds of her characters, alongside the flawed cultures in which they live. She explores the limitations and expanses of imaginations of her subjects, in response to trauma memory, plasticization and feelings of nausea, shame and longing.
Inspired by theoretical research, personal experiences and a consideration for the role of the feminist hero within fiction, she creates stories in which her characters attempt reach for a place beyond constricting gendered tropes fed to them by popular culture, slowly forming an authentic subjectivity and a relationship with the divine.
In 2020 she graduated from Camberwell, where she received First Class Honours in BA Illustration. In 2022 she graduted from Falmouth University with an MA in Illustration : Authroial Practice, she received a distinction.
